WEEKS BEFORE THE OLYMPICS, DC FENCERS CLUB MEMBERS WIN GOLD, SILVER, AND BRONZE
AT 2012 USA FENCING SUMMER NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
DCFC members bring home nine medals from nation’s largest fencing tournament
Silver Spring, MD – DC Fencers Club (DCFC) congratulates its fencers who brought home nine medals from the 2012 USA Fencing National Championships and July North American Cup, held on June 29 – July 8 in Anaheim, California. DCFC members ranging from age 14 to over 70 won a total of nine medals, including two gold, two silver, three bronze, and fifth and sixth places medals. In addition, DCFC members advanced to nine additional top 16 spots in multiple events featuring competitive fields of 100 or more fencers.
DCFC sent nearly 50 fencers to compete in numerous team and individual events at Summer Nationals, hosted by USA Fencing, the national governing body for this Olympic sport. This is the largest fencing tournament in the world, with more than 3,500 fencers of all ages representing fencing clubs around the country. The event served as the final qualifying tournament for the 2012 Veteran World Championships in Krems, Austria In October, as well as the first qualifying event for the 2012 Junior and Cadet World Championships.

DC Fencers Club Summer Camps and Beginner Classes
Each generation of fencing champions gets its start in a beginner fencing class. This July and August, DC Fencers Club offers six separate weeklong summer fencing camps for beginners ages eight and up. In addition there is a Saturday morning all ages/all levels fencing class. Starting in September, DC Fencers Club hosts ongoing beginner fencing classes on weekdays, weeknights, and Saturdays, including beginner classes for youth, and daytime classes for homeschoolers.
