DC Fencers Club Hosts Summer Fencing Camps in July

Youth ages 7 and up can learn the Olympic sport of fencing at four weeklong camps

Do your children play sword fights in the living room? This July introduce them to the real thing with summer fencing camps at DC Fencers Club. These weeklong fencing day camps teach children ages seven and up the real-world skills of confidence, decision making, and self discipline that are at the heart of this Olympic sport. Children also benefit from a positive fitness activity taught in a friendly, supportive, and safe setting.

Modern fencing is an Olympic sport with roots in European sword fighting of centuries past. Today, fencing is a competitive sport of skill, strategy and endurance. Fencing is often called “physical chess” for its strategic and mental challenges. And fencing is fun!

Children ages 7 and up are welcome to our four weeklong fencing day camps in July. Camps are open to beginner through intermediate fencers, and equipment and uniforms are provided. Fencing camp activities include games, footwork, fencing technique & tactics, group lessons, fencing videos, competition, training with nationally ranked fencers, and of course, new friendships.

There is always something new to learn at fencing camp, since each session has a different mix of students and abilities. Students are welcome to sign up for more than one week.

“Fencing is a different kind of sport, it requires more than sheer athleticism,” said DC Fencers Club Head Coach Janusz Smolenski. “Traditional sports like soccer or football rely on physical strength; with fencing, children strengthen their mental agility as well as their physical abilities.”

The coaches at DC Fencers Club have successfully trained dozens of youth fencers who have been recruited by, and are currently fencing for Yale, Princeton, MIT, Columbia, and Notre Dame, among others. DC Fencers Club has consistently produced fencers who compete at the national and international level. Our fencers have earned medals at USA Fencing National Championships, World Cups, and Junior World Championships.
