Dear all,

Happy New Year!  As 2014 kicks off, DC Fencers Club would like to introduce the sport of fencing to area schools and prospective fencers, especially young athletes ages 7 -12.  To reach this goal, we want to organize fencing demonstrations at local elementary and middle schools.

Our focus on young fencers is, in part, a salute to Tim Moorehouse’s Fencing In The Schools movement.  In addition, by involving new athletes, we ensure continuity of programs through a strong base of fencers as our high school seniors leave DCFC to begin their college careers.  We also introduce this awesome sport to a new generation.

If you are a student, parent or alumnus of a local school, you can help!  We’d like to ask you to leverage your connection to local schools to organize a demo.  Talk to your school administrators, PTA, or athletics director to inquire about scheduling a fencing demonstration at a school function.  Ideal functions for a demo include school-wide assemblies, athletic events, concerts, or activity fairs.

Below are some logistics to help guide your conversations with school administrators:

•The fencing demo will consist of setting up an electric machine, explaining the basics and fencing best two out of three five touch bouts.

•DCFC will bring all the equipment and two qualified fencers to run the demo.

•Preferred time windows for the demo are Monday to Friday no later than 1:30 PM

•Point of Contact: Coach Ilya Lobanenkov (; 240- 424-0749

If you have any questions or need further detail, please reach out to me.

Thank you in advance for your help growing the next generation of DCFC Fencers!
