Amazon XV – Fifteen Years of #WomenWithSwords
Scores of women with swords descended on DC Fencers Club to compete in the fifteenth annual Amazon Open on Sunday, June 10.
Local fencers were joined by women who traveled all the way from Cleveland, Boston, and Miami for the A2 epee and A1 sabre event.
These events don’t just happen. They take leadership, planning, and persuasion. Fifteen years ago, Valerie Asher saw the need to create more opportunities for women’s fencing, and her efforts have resulted in one of the strongest local women’s events on the East Coast. We salute Valerie, we thank the bout committee and referee cadre, and we offer congratulations to those who made top eight spots.
