Adam Green on the road to gold in Div II Senior Men's Sabre at the 2012 VA Kickoff Classic

Congratulations to our DCFC members who earned top spots and decorative weapons at the Virginia Kickoff Classic in Fredericksburg, VA, Sept. 29-30, 2012. A salute to the 40+ DCFC fencers who showed their competitive spirit at the first Regional American Cup (ROC) of the season.

ROC events function as qualifiers to the USA Fencing Summer National Championships Division I-A, Division II, and Veteran Categories, and may qualify fencers to other events, depending upon classification and status.

Saturday:

In the Division 1A Senior Women’s Epee event, DCFCers Rebecca Chimahusky and Amanda Sirico earned the silver and bronze medals, and Valerie Asher also earned a top eight spot (#6). Clubmates Maria Schmitz, Brooke Sirico, and Marissa Posner advanced to the #12, #14, and #16 spots. Congratulations, ladies!

In Division II Senior Men’s Epee, Isaac Shelanski won the bronze medal. Adam Klein also advanced to the top 16 (#9) All the men from DCFC made it to the top half of the 45+ competitive field, well done, gentlemen!

In the Division 1A Senior Men’s Sabre event, DCFCers finished strong, with DCFCer Peter Sounders placing in the top eight (5), and clubmates Eli Polston, Galen Emmanuel, and James Cameron advancing to top 16 spots 11, 13, and 14, respectively.

Sunday:

Congratulations to Katherine Sizov, who won the gold medal in Division II Senior Women’s Epee. Maria Schmitz also advanced to the top 8 (#7) and Marissa Posner and Claire Bush made it to the top 16 (13 & 16). Well done, ladies!

A salute to Adam Green, who earned gold in Division II Senior Men’s Sabre. Fellow DCFCers Eli Polston and Jian Ouyang joined him in the top 16 (9 & 12).

Marta Lasota earned the #5 spot in Division 1A Senior Women’s Sabre, and Lillie Lainoff made it to the top 16 (#9).

In Division IA Senior Men’s Epee, the stars aligned so that many DCFCers got to knock each other out in Direct Eliminations. Sometimes it works out that way. A salute to Byron Neslund, Conrad Sutter, and Jack Maes for earning spots 6, 7, and 8 out of a field of 88 competitors. Corwin Duncan, Clinton Rodell, and Kashi Way also garnered 9th, 11th, and 13th spots in the top 16.

Finally, a tip of the hat to 2009 Veteran World Champion Walter Dragonetti of Hooked on Fencing in Cleveland, OH. Dragonetti earned the Div 1A Men’s Epee gold and showed the young’uns how it’s done. The treat of the day was watching Dragonetti fence (and beat) former Olympian John Normile in the quarterfinals. In what other sport can you compete alongside world-class athletes, past, present, and future?

DCFC Medalists at the VA Kickoff Open
