DC FENCERS CLUB HOSTS MORE THAN 70 YOUTH FENCERS

AT ‘FENCES WITH WOLVES’ FUNDRAISER TOURNAMENT

Silver Spring, MD – More than 70 youth fencers from fencing clubs near and far gathered at DC Fencers Club to compete in the Fences with Wolves Youth Tournament on Sunday, June 3, 2012. DCFC member Jacob Asher organized the event to raise funds for the Wolf Project of the Yellowstone Park Foundation, which tracks the travel habits of wolves in the park.

The tournament featured epee contests in the Youth 10, Youth 12, and Youth 14 categories. Boys and girls arrived from clubs in northern Virginia, Baltimore, MD, and as far as Jacksonville, Florida to compete in the event. For each event, fencers who placed in the top eight received medals and special wolf-themed prizes and top four finishers received gift certificates from event sponsor Tropical Island Ice Cream Café.

Youth fencers received sponsors who pledged donations based on points earned during the tournament. The Fences with Wolves tournament has raised more than $4,000 in estimated pledges, nearly twice the amount that Jacob set for his fundraising goal.

After the competition, individuals who sponsored youth fencers will receive an email with their pledge amount and a link for online donation. Visit Jacob’s page at the Yellowstone Wolf Project to track the latest fundraising news or to make a donation.

DC Fencers club salutes Jacob Asher, the youth fencers, their families, and tournament organizers for a successful event.
