Fencing Flash Mob this Sunday, 9/18, 4pm at Jefferson Memorial

Join fellow DC-area fencers this Sunday, September 18 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm for the third annual fencing flashmob at the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, DC!

In 2014 the Italian Fencing Federation challenged fencers all over the world to gather on the same day in iconic locations to bring fencing to a wider audience. We have successfully run flashmobs for the past two years on the National Mall. This year, because of the Navy half-marathon earlier in the day it was difficult to get a permit from the National Park Service, but we have finally been issued a permit for a beautiful site, the plaza in front of the Jefferson Memorial

We had a blast last year and we would love to have you join us this year.

We will gather at 4:00 pm on the south side of the memorial (facing East Basin Drive) and will organize some “fencing choreography.” We will then march around the mall to the plaza in front of the Jefferson Memorial. The whole event typically takes about an hour, but we encourage you to stick around and take pictures!

How to get there: parking is limited in this area, but there are several area parking lots.

There is also street parking on Ohio Drive on the other side of the inlet bridge.

While there is no nearby Metro stop, the National Mall Circulator bus runs from Union Station and costs only $1. Information about schedule and stops can be found here:

Who can come? Fencers of any kind from any club; all ages, all weapons, all levels of experience. The only requirement is that you have a full set of non-electric equipment: mask, jacket, plastron, pants, socks, shoes, glove, and weapon.

Friends and relatives are also encouraged to come and cheer us on – and the more pictures the better!

If there are any changes or updates, they will be posted on the DCFC Facebook “event” page.
