On Sunday, November 3, DCFC had a special treat at the 2013 Tom Wright Memorial, a three weapon tournament sponsored by the Capitol Division.
Wright’s grandsons Damon and Jason Wright and their families joined us to share stories and watch the sport that their grandfather loved. Damon wowed us with the true story about how the 18-year old Wright was challenged to a duel by a jealous Italian nobleman. Wright fenced sabre at Harvard graduating in 1941. After retiring from a distinguished career as an architect in Washington, DC, he returned to fencing at the NIH club in the 1990’s, when he was in his 70’s. He went to England on one of the first USA veteran teams before World Veteran Championships were officially recognized.

Damon and Jason Wright and their families joined the 2013 Tom Wright Veteran Fencing Tournament to share stories about their fencing grandfather, the tournament’s namesake.
Thanks to meet manager Lewis Sloter and all our referees for a well-run tournament. Thanks also to Tina Cooper, who made the connection with Damon Wright through work and enabled this very special Tom Wright Tournament. Salute!
