GOLD, BRONZE, AND STELLAR RESULTS FOR DCFC MEMBERS AT THE VA. BEACH NORTH AMERICAN CUP

Congratulations to all our DCFC members who competed in the North American Cup (NAC) at Virginia Beach VA held on November 9-12, 2012.

 

Corwin Duncan (College Park, Md.), Byron Neslund (Rockville, Md.) Isaac Erbele (Washington, D.C.) and Damien Lehfeldt (Washington, D.C.) represented DC Fencers Club earned gold in the Senior Team Men's Epee event.

 

The men bring to the team both national and international fencing experience and results.  

 

The DC Fencers Club team competed in epee, a weapon derived from the traditional dueling rapier.  In the team competition format, each member of one team faces each member of the other team once, for a total of nine individual bouts.  Team events are competed to a maximum of 45 touches.

 

At the North American Cup, the DCFC team advanced past 22 other teams from around the country.  In the gold medal bout, The DC Fencers Club Team led by 34-26 against the Northwest Fencing Center Team (Beaverton, OR) after the first eight bouts. In the ninth, however, Kyle Wolfson outscored Neslund, 18-10, to tie the match at 44 and force an overtime period.   Neslund scored the first sudden death touch, however, to win the match, 45-44.

 

The DCFC Senior Men's Epee Team will hold this #1 spot until the next Senior Team event, which takes place at the USA Fencing Summer National Championships in Columbus, Ohio next July.

The next day, Neslund garnered ninth place in Div 1 Men's Epee.  Neslund advanced from a field of 264 fencers and a competition schedule that would run nearly nine hours. 

 

On Sunday, Amanda Sirico won the bronze in Junior Women's Epee, advancing from a field of 130 fencers.
