New Year’s Resolutions come true at the January North American Cup
DC Fencers Club sent eighteen fencers to compete in the 2016 January North American Cup, held in St. Louis, MO from January 8-11, 2016. Several made good on their New Year’s resolutions, with top spots in various events. Congratulations to all our fencers on getting in the game, and a special salute to the following fencers:
All for one and one for all! Dennis Kraft, Sam Dietrich, Isaac Shelanski, and Andrew Nosil joined forces to win gold in Senior Team Men’s Epee. The team scored definitive victories against every team from the T32 bracket on; the only team that gave them serious competition was the U.S. Air Force Academy (45-42).
Peter Souders won bronze in Senior Men’s Sabre and Jacob Asch advanced to fifth place in Junior Men’s Sabre.
In her last year in the Junior (under 20) category, Olympic hopeful Amanda Sirico took bronze in Junior Women’s Epee. Over the next three weeks, Amanda will train in Poland, and compete in upcoming senior and junior world cups in Barcelona and Burgos, Spain as part of her #roadtorio quest.
