Sirico shines at Legnano World Cup
DCFC fencer Amanda Sirico continues to garner strong results on the senior world cup circuit. On Saturday, February 11, Sirico climbed to the #31 spot at the Trofeo Carroccio, a Senior Women’s Epee World Cup held annually in Legnano, Italy.
In the table of 64, Sirico upset the #1 seed Violetta Kolobova (RUS) with a dramatic 14-13 win. Kolobova is a two-time team world champion (2013, 2014) and is currently ranked #7 in the world.
“I really couldn’t believe it, but I had to fight out of a deficit and into priority,” said Sirico. “It was a lot of focus and hard work. She is really experienced and I’m really happy I was able to pull it out.”
From there, Sirico advanced to the table of 32, where she faced Julia Beljajeva (EST), the 2013 world champion and 2014 team world silver medalist. Sirico went 8-15 against Beljajeva, who went on to take gold in the event.
“It’s never bad to lose to the winner either,” added Sirico.
Sirico is no stranger to top results at senior world cups. In 2013, Sirico took 14th place in her first-ever senior world cup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
