Thanksgiving closure alert, November news and results

Holiday closure alert – DCFC will be closed Wednesday, November 26 through Sunday, November 30 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. We will reopen on Monday, December 1. Safe travels and a Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Past and present DC Fencers Club members met in New Haven on November 8 for the Dernell Every Memorial meet for Yale fencers and alumni. Ian Richards (’17) faced teammate Reed Srere (’17) in the men’s saber final with Ian taking gold and Reed taking silver. Lillie Lainoff (’17) took silver in women’s saber, and Valerie Asher (’82) took silver in women’s epee. James Rohrbach (’05) who dusted off his equipment for the first time in many years lost 14-15 to get to the medal rounds. Boolah boolah!

 

In her first world circuit fencing tournament of the season, Amanda Sirico, 18, of Bowie, Maryland, won silver at the Young Lions Women’s Junior World Cup in Helsinki, Finland on November 9. With this win, Sirico maintains her rank as the number one Junior (under 20) Women’s Epee fencer in the United States; she is also the number four ranked Junior Women’s Epee fencer in the world. Kudos to Jeff Snider on winning the mixed open Veteran’s Day Vets 40+ event at Dark Horse Fencing Club in Fredericksburg, VA on November 15. Joe Deucher won bronze in the same event! Full results here.

 

Congratulations to our Midwestern DCFCer, Margherita Guzzi Vincenti, who won gold at the “Chuck Willis Memorial,” mixed open tournament organized by the Parkway Fencing Club at the Simon Recreation Center, St. Louis University on November 22.

 

Congratulations to Brooke Sirico who helped advance Team USA to fifth place in Cadet Women’s Team Epee at the Grenoble Cadet Challenge in France. Way to go!

Three Champagne Challenges in November

On November 1-2, DCFC hosted a double-header Champagne Challenge (a C and under, and a Senior Mixed Epee event) and another Senior Mixed Epee Champagne Challenge on November 24. Congratulations Clinton, Ezra, Arjuna, Gaetan, Dennis, Isaac, Sam, Dale, Claire and Daniel on taking podium spots in these events. Full results here, here, and here.
