Upcoming tournaments at DCFC
Mark your calendars! Four tournaments at DCFC are coming up soon.
MAY 17 – FENCES WITH WOLVES
On Sunday, May 17, DCFC hosts the fourth annual “Fences With Wolve”s. This is a Y10, Y12, and Y14 mixed epee event. This tournament is a fundraiser for the Wolf Project of the Yellowstone Park Foundation. Over the past three years, Fencers With Wolves has raised $15,000 to study the long-term impact of wolves, which were reintroduced to the Park’s ecosystem in 1995. If you’d like to sponsor a young wolf, there is a sign-up sheet at the club. All fencers receive a commemorative wristband, and there are wolf-themed prizes for medalists, as well as a prize in each age group for the fencer with the most sponsors. Registration fee is $35 for preregistered fencers and $45 at the door. A portion of tournament fees will go directly to the Yellowstone Wolf Project. Please know, you may only register in ONE event.

May 30-31 – CAPTAIN STEERE OPEN
This is a three-weapon tournament to honor Richard C. Steere, a retired Navy captain who was the weather expert for General George S. Patton during the Anglo-American landing in North Africa in November 1942 and a member of a bronze medal-winning U.S. fencing team at the 1932 Summer Olympics. Captain Steere was a fixture at the U.S. Naval Academy in the 1950s and 60s, where he taught fencing to midshipman. A lifelong supporter of fencing, Steere fenced into his late seventies and won various titles of the Amateur Fencers League of America, which became the United States Fencing Association.
