Young warriors prevail at the Capital Clash Youth Fencing Event

There are no participation medals in fencing. A few climb to podium spots, for the rest, the rewards are internal. Learning how to compose yourself in a sea of convention hall noise and nervous energy. Choosing the right action to beat your opponent. Maintaining focus as you advance through the event. Learning from losses.

On January 14-18, dozens of DCFC youth fencers showed their courage and determination at the Capitol Clash SYC and Cadet RCC.  The Capitol Clash, held at National Harbor, MD, is one of the country’s largest regional youth fencing tournaments.

We salute all our young competitors for getting in the game, and we offer a special salute to the following fencers who took top eight spots.

Sophia Jakel, silver, Y10 Women’s Epee

Yunice Pyo, fifth place, Cadet Women’s Epee

Justin Haddad, fifth place, Cadet Men’s Epee

Logan Chambliss, eighth place, Y10 Men’s Epee

It takes a village to run a fencing tournament.  We thank our coaches, families, and friends for your support, and we salute the referee cadre, the bout committee, the armorers, and other participants for another great event.
